The aim of the Central Regional Health School is to maintain the
education of students (year 0 to year 13) when their health means
they are unable to attend their regular school.
To achieve this aim, the CRHS teachers will develop an individual
education programme (IEP) based on:
- The student's learning needs
- Their regular school programme
- The New Zealand Curriculum Framework
The programme may include:
- One-to-one tuition
- Accessing the resources of the Correspondence School
- Assisting with the transition of students back to their regular
school when they are well enough.
CRHS teachers usually work with students in hospital or at home.
They may also work in student's regular school as part of the transition
process.
To be considered for admission students need to be:
- Having an active treatment programme for their medical condition;
OR
- In a health funded mental health programme
AND ONE OF THE FOLLOWING
- In hospital, or recovering, for 10 school days or more
OR
- Have more than 6 admissions to hospital in 1 year
OR
- Repeated school absence due to illness (more than 40 days in
one year)
Some students may also need support to return to school following
an illness.
